A domestic abuse shelter in Harrisonville, MO, Hope Haven of Cass County provides safety and shelter for victims of sexual and domestic abuse and violence in the community. Opened in the summer of 1995, the battered women and children’s shelter has served more than 14,000 victims in the nearly 19 years since its inception. The Business and Professional Women’s Club in Harrisonville realized they must provide services to victims of abuse in 1991, after attending a workshop that revealed the true impact of domestic and sexual abuse on communities and families.
Hope Haven of Cass County provides a wide array of services to battered women and victims of domestic/sexual abuse in addition to providing safety and shelter. These services include counseling, support groups, hot line/crisis intervention, court advocacy, outreach services, dating violence awareness training, case management, and more. Like most other women and children’s shelters throughout the country, Hope Haven relies largely on donations and the support of others in order to continue to provide their services to those in need, and wants to educate others regarding how they can help through donating, volunteering, and partnering with the organization.
The top priorities of Hope Haven, which continues to be the only provider in Cass County of services for victims of domestic and sexual violence, include ensuring safety, holding abusers accountable, empowering survivors, providing educational resources for victims, and bringing an end to domestic/sexual abuse through education and prevention.
Hope Haven’s website, developed by Kansas City Web Design, contains educational information, news and events, myths and facts about domestic violence, information regarding partnering with the shelter, tax credits, sponsorships, and more to educate those who are interested in learning more, or in becoming supporters of the shelter.
